Blunham
Blunham is identified as a Large Village in the emerging Core Strategy.

There are 39 Large and Small Villages and together these villages need to make provision for a total of 400 new homes up to 2026, over and above existing sites with planning permission. New small-scale rural employment sites may also be considered. The Core Strategy indicates that allocations will mainly be made in Large Villages and only exceptionally in Small Villages.

Part of this site is within the Conservation Area and therefore any new development would have to preserve or enhance the character and appearance of the area.
Ref Number: H216
Submission type: Housing
Site Name/Address: Barnfield, Barford Road, Blunham
Submitted proposal: Development of 120 dwellings
Site Area (hectares): 4.73
Additional information submitted: This site could deliver as many as 120 homes but the entire area is unlikely to be developed due to the need for woodland strips to the west and south, public open space and possibly some employment facilities. It is proposed that live-work units may be appropriate and that the site could also incorporate an extension to the graveyard, additional sporting facilities and highway features.
District Council initial comments: Blunham is identified in the emerging Core Strategy as a Large Village. Smaller scale development would be considered here. A development of 120 dwellings is unlikely to fit with the approach of the Core Strategy but part of the site might be considered.
Ref Number: H217
Submission type: Housing
Site Name/Address: Maltings Farm, Grange Road, Blunham
Submitted proposal: Development of 5-200 dwellings
Site Area (hectares): 7.93
Additional information submitted: This site could deliver as many as 200 homes but the entire area is unlikely to be developed due to the need for woodland strips to the west north and south, public open space and possibly some employment facilities. It is proposed that live-work units may be appropriate and that the site could also incorporate and extension to the graveyard, additional sporting facilities and highway features.
District Council initial comments: Blunham is identified in the emerging Core Strategy as a Large Village. Smaller scale development would be considered here but a development of 200 dwellings is unlikely to fit with the approach of the Core Strategy. The separation of this site from the main part of Blunham could raise sustainability issues. Part of this site is within the floodplain. In general, development should avoid the floodplain. This issue will need further consideration.
