Around 440 sites have now been submitted to Mid Beds District Council for potential residential and commercial development. Only a very small number of these will need to be developed to meet Government targets to provide 4,400 new homes in the area by 2026 and create 9,000 new jobs by 2021. Alongside meeting these targets, improvements are also planned to local services and infrastructure.
Over the next two months Mid Beds District Council will be running a second round of consultation on future development in the area. During the first round in April this year over 10,700 responses were received, commenting upon around 400 initial potential development sites. Over two-thirds of the responses were submitted via the www.talktomidbeds.co.uk website.
During this process developers and landowners put forward around 70 new sites and proposals; this second round will consult on these. The sites and proposals included in this second round of consultation are spread throughout the district (please see list at bottom right).
In addition to the information on the website there will be four exhibitions taking place, highlighting proposals in which will be held during July. To view when and where the exhibitions are taking place please click on the ‘Come and See Us’ link to the left.
These sites are not the Council’s preferred sites but are new sites submitted by landowners/developers for consultation. Only around 40 to 50 (of the 440 submitted) will eventually be allocated for development and these preferred sites will be published for consultation early next year.
No other sites can now be suggested as part of this process and no further consultation can take place on the first 400 sites as the deadline for submitting comments for the first round of the consultation has also now passed. However you can still view the first round sites and proposals submitted for potential development in your area by simply clicking on the map top right.
As before, information for those that request it can also be provided in paper format by calling the Talk To Mid Beds information line on 0845 230 0139 (calls charged at a local rate) or by emailing tamsincowley@talktomidbeds.co.uk.
The Issues and Options documents can also be viewed from the beginning of the consultation period, at Mid Bedfordshire District Council in Chicksands and the PoPs in Biggleswade and Ampthill (opening times from 8:45am to 5pm Monday to Thursday and 8:45am to 4 pm on Friday); or in the main libraries across the District (opening times vary).
This second round consultation period will run until 19th August and once completed the results will be added to those already received to produce a final report to be published online in the autumn. Using these comments a list of preferred options for development will then be put forward and consulted on at the end of the year or early 2009.
